Al-Kitab Private University is located in the village of Qara Beg which belongs to the town Alton Kupri located in the multi-ethnic province of Kirkuk, a region inhabited by Kurds and Turkmen, and the region witnessed a state of political, ethnic, and religious disturbance and panic, and disorder after 2003, i.e. after the toppling of Baath regime in Iraq.
However, after the establishment of the university, which has become a scientific and cultural landmark and a meeting place for the members of the diverse and different communities, the spirit of brotherhood, harmony, and coexistence spread in the region. This new spirit of harmony and coexistence is actually one of the developments that the university has brought to the region as it presents its services to the whole community regardless of their nationality, language, religion, sect, gender or colour. It is the same spirit of tolerance, coexistence and harmony that pervades and is actually practiced in the small university community that is transferred to the outer community, aspiring to make the members of the university community apostles and messengers of peaceful coexistence, and tolerance in the surrounding community. Thus, besides the main message of the university, which is education and science, it strives to be an active factor in society to help creating urbanised and creative members of the community who is able to contribute to the creation of a peaceful, tolerant and egalitarian community. Therefore, the university has greatly contributed to ending tension and disputes among the people of the region to some extent, according to its adoption of the following strategy:
- Banning all sorts of political, sectarian or ethnic activities within the university campus, thus, discouraging such conflicts.
- appointing competent academic and scientific figures and professors from all over the country and foreign countries who are actually qualified to convey the real messages of the university and realise its goals.
- holding and encouraging a variety of cultural, sports, and socisl activities for creating a spirit of cooperation, tolerance among the components of society to achieve peaceful coexistence.
- Attracting the attention of students from different Iraqi governorates, i.e. different religions, nationalities, ideologies, social backgrounds and environments, aspiring to create an ideal peaceful and harmonious atmosphere for them, where all kinds of discrimination, and prejudicial treatment of different categories of people on the grounds of race, age, sex, religion language and ethnicity are totally prohibited. In fact, one of the main goals of the university is to practically teach and convey the spirit of homogeneity and mutual cooperation among its members, which has positively resulted in the achievement of peaceful coexistence among the university members, and truly had a great positive role in the neighbouring community.
